Book Michelle McKinney Hammond.
Where does one go from after experiencing personal disaster, unexpected devastation and shattered dreams? Michelle McKinney Hammond would tell you “onward and upward!”
As a bestselling author, speaker, singer and television host, Michelle has authored over 20 books (selling over one million copies worldwide), including best-selling titles The Diva Principle, Sassy, Single and Satisfied, 101 Ways to Get and Keep His Attention and Secrets of an Irresistible Woman. A gifted vocalist, Michelle has recorded two CDs and co-hosts the three-time Emmy-nominated television show Aspiring Women. She has appeared on countless television shows including Bill Maher’s Politically Incorrect, E Channel’s “SoapTalk,” NBC’s The Other Half, The 700 Club, and BET’s Oh Drama! She has graced the cover of magazines such as Today’s Christian Woman and Christian Single Magazine, writes a column for BE (Black Elegance), and has been featured in The New York Times, Shine, Discipleship Journal Homelife and Jet.
Following several successful years in an award-winning advertising career (her clients included Coca-Cola USA, McDonald’s, Procter and Gamble and General Motors Corporation), Michelle’s perfect world crumbled when she was hit by a car, suffering a devastating leg injury.
Through one surgery after another, Michelle’s disposition never wavered. “I never had a ‘woe-is-me’ period,” Michelle reflects. For her, the accident was a spiritual turning point, a wake up call to embrace her purpose and fulfill her destiny.
As she lay recuperating, a friend found an old manuscript she’d started four years earlier and encouraged Michelle to finish it. Those bedridden months gave birth to her first bestseller, What To Do Until Love Finds You. “I was a miserable single person,” Michelle recalls. “I finally got happy and I wanted to share some of the things I’d learned along the way. I wanted to give other singles what I wish someone had written for me when I was struggling to find fulfillment.”
Since then, Michelle has emerged as a highly-respected author, speaker and singer, reaching a diverse audience. “While my books and my speaking reflect my heartfelt concern for others, my music connects me to God. It is where I pour out my love and my celebration of who He is. I share this with others because I know our journeys reflect the same emotions,” she reveals.
Michelle’s warm, girlfriend-next-door look at tough, real-life issues has given her a reputation as a woman’s woman, a singles and relationship expert, and a well-recognized “Diva.” But don’t let her “diva-tude” fool you: she is a diva re-defined. In her latest bestseller, The Diva Principle, Michelle asserts, “Being a diva is not the spoiled brat syndrome. A diva is not arrogant and selfinvolved. The real meaning of the word is divine.” Michelle believes a true diva embraces and celebrates her femininity, leaving a positive lasting impression on everyone she encounters. Michelle’s underlying message is to pursue and embrace a right relationship with God, ourselves, and each other. “I am inspired to create by the needs of people. My creative inspiration comes from my heartfelt desire to give relevant answers to people’s questions,” she says. Taking on universal subjects from relationships to self-image with refreshing honesty and candor, Michelle illuminates timeless truths, making the down-to-earth principles she serves up truly divine.
