Book Margot Starbuck.
With a fresh blend of insight, humor, and creativity Margot engages audiences as she points them toward the person of Jesus. Margot comments, “I’m convinced that individuals are transformed as they come to know, in their bones, Jesus’ constant whisper, ‘I am for you’.” She is the author of The Girl in the Orange Dress: Searching for a Father Who Does Not Fail and Unsqueezed: Springing Free From Skinny Jeans, Nose Jobs, Highlights and Stilettos (InterVarsity Press).
The Girl in the Orange Dress, a spiritual memoir, describes Margot’s journey growing up as an adopted person and eventually finding her birthparents as a young adult. In the midst of facing some of her early losses, she at last comes to know the Father’s faithfulness in her bones. Unsqueezed, sharing a fresh perspective on body image, deals with our culture’s nutty insistence that the bodies God calls good were made to be viewed. (In fact, God gave them for relationship. Surprise!)
Today’s Christian Woman, Relevant, Susie, Adoptive Families, Focus on the Family, and Rev!, are some other places you may have seen Margot’s writing. She’s a contributor to several book compilations and is the Confessions Editor for Geez magazine’s Sinner’s Corner.
Margot is passionate about equipping Jesus-followers, in practical daily ways, to pattern their lives after his. Both young people and older ones will glean new possibilities for discipleship from Margot’s messages. One woman comments, “I left the retreat wanting to be the woman God created me to be, not the woman the world tells me I should be.”
Margot earned her bachelor’s degree from Westmont College in 1991 as an art major. She worked with Urban Promise Ministries, in Camden, New Jersey, before receiving a Master’s of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1995. She worked for six years as the Director of Spiritual Development at the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat in Wyckoff, New Jersey, serving women and men living with disabilities.
Margot lives with her husband, Peter, and their three children in Durham, North Carolina. Never accused of being a serious cyclist, Margot enjoys riding her daisy-covered cruiser around town. She also likes hanging out with teens living with and without disabilities through Reality Ministries.
